Eric first joined the band in 1947 as a side drummer. For a time Eric also played
pipes in the New Zealand Post Office Pipe Band during the 1950s, when it enjoyed
considerable success in New Zealand competitions in Grade A. After a long stint as a side
drummer with the City of Wellington Highland Pipe Band, Eric returned to WSPD in the early
1990s as lead drummer. Eric is very energetic in teaching new drummers, and his highly
musical settings are greatly appreciated by the band. |
Peter Appleton

Peter learnt pipes as a teenager in Yorkshire before moving to New Zealand. He later
learnt piano and is now a piano tuner and dealer - a handy person when it comes to tuning
the band! |
 |
 |
Gordon Ayres - Bass & Tenor
Drummer
Gordon has played bass and tenor in bands for many years, and played with the
City of Wellington Highland Pipe Band before joining WSPD in 1998. One of Gordon's assets

|

Pipe Band in Wellington and then with WSPD. An engineer, Stuart has also recently been
building up his family with twins! |

band camp-outs. |

 |
 |
Jasper Donelan - Side Drummer
Jasper joined the band in 1997, learning side drum with Eric. He is currently stuyding
psychology at Victoria University of Wellington, and rumours that he is using the band as
a case study are entirely unfounded. |
 |
Wally Gordon - Piper
Wally (a life member) is the longest serving player in the band, having first joined after
the War. He began learning pipes in 1939 and enlisted in the Wellington Regiment during
the War. Over the subsequent years Wally's contribution to the band has been immeasurable. |

a position Kevin occupied for over 25 years. Kevin led the band to several notable
competition successes over the years, and is a life member of the band. 2000 was Kevin's
40th consecutive parade with the band at the dawn service at the Wellington Cenotaph on
ANZAC Day. Kevin is a marriage celebrant and can always be relied upon to say a few (!)
words at appropriate occasions. |

Kyle Sherson -
Drummer
Kyle joined the band in 2005. More details soon! |

to "MacMelle". |
 |
Robbie Hiddleston

1970s. Robbie is now Drum Major of the City of Wellington Highland Pipe Band, a Grade I
band. |

New Zealand from Scotland after the Great War. George himself played pipes with the band
for a number of years in the 1950s and still takes a keen interest in band affairs. |
