| Band Hall Theft: It is with much regret that Wellington Scottish Pipes & Drums
advises of a theft from its band hall. Last September there was a break-in during the
night. It was presumed that this was just kids, but now it has been discovered that things
were in fact taken.
Last week the Pipe Major went to the band hall to set up
one of the band's set of pipes for a new learner. When playing a tune the PM discovered to
his dismay that the double high F had completely vanished. After playing some more he
discovered that the double C and bubbly note had gone too. Not only were these doublings
gone, but the birl was severely damaged during the theft to a degree whereby it may be
beyond repair.
Fortunately it does not appear that the thief noticed the
double E and throw on D, both of which were particularly good, as these remain intact on
the instrument.
It is sad, and a great disappointment, that a community
organisation should be the victim of this sort of crime. We only hope that the thief is
unable to acquire a matching set of ornaments and an instrument upon which to play them.
