Tenor Drummers:
The tenor drummers play drums slightly larger than the side drums, suspended from a cross belt so the drum sits on the top of the left leg.

Tenor Drummer

There are usually at least two tenor drummers in a band. The tenor drum produces a sound not unlike the bass drum but, as the name implies, at a higher pitch. The sticks used also have a soft head but are not as large as those for the bass drum.

The tenor drums fill out the middle range of sound between the bass drum and side drum and pipes. The rhythms played also lie between the bass drum and side drums. While playing "on the beat" is a primary function there is plenty of scope for variation and embellishment.

The tenor drum parts are written to complement the side drum parts. A primary attaction of the tenor drummers is visual. The tenor durmmers flourish the sticks in many different patterns. When done in unison between many tenor drummers the effect is spectacular. Tenor Drum
