A Blow for Piping...
In 1967 the band, under the redoubtable leadership of PM Kevin Nelson and then known as the Pipes & Drums of Wellington City, was engaged to play during half-time at a football match between Wellington and the Wairarapa in Masterton. It appears there was a misunderstanding about when the band was to play and the impatient referee blew the whistle to kick off the second half while the band was still on the field....

In the wake of this traumatic incident the late Neville Lodge struck a "blow" for pipe bands everywhere with this cartoon which appeared the following week on the cover of the Sports Post.
